Members of the Democratic Party have placed its trust in me in allowing me to campaign under their banner. If you elect me, you will place your trust in me that I will govern with honesty and energy.
Therefore, I make the following pledge to you the voters of Warren and Hamilton Counties:
- I will campaign hard, but honestly. I will point out what I perceive to be flaws in my opponent's record, but I will not use lies or misleading statements. I will not mislead the voters in any way.
- I will do my homework, so you can be sure that my positions are well thought-out and grounded in fact.
- I will tackle the tough, but important, issues facing the 7th Senate District and Ohio as a whole. I will not rest until I find a way to solve these problems.
- I will not take a campaign contribution from anyone who expresses or implies that I should do a favor for them in the future or I should vote in a particular way.
- When in office, I pledge to not take ANY gifts from lobbyists, except for cups of coffee, pens, and pencils. I will not accept any pen or pencil gift that is valued at more than $10.00. The pen or pencil must have the lobbyist's or his client's name on the instrument...that way I have them in MY pocket, rather than the other way around.
- When in office, if I am invited to any function by a lobbyist, I will pay the entire cost of my participation. If I am offered tickets to any event that is sold-out, I will not attend even if I pay for the tickets, because the ticket's very availability to me through the lobbyist has a gift value.
- When in office, I will not accept any political contribution from anyone working with or for an industry that I directly oversee in my Committee roles. For example, if I am on the Energy & Utility Committee, I will not take any money from energy or utility lobbyists, PACs, or employees. The sole exception to this rule is that I will continue to accept personal contributions from anyone with whom I developed a personal relationship prior to December, 2005 (when I began campaigning).
